In general, scientists favor the Kelvin scale over Rankine, as the Kelvin scale represents one degree increases in Celsius (unlike Rankine which represent one degree increases in Fahrenheit). Fahrenheit is used worldwide, unlike Fahrenheit which is not used as much outside the United States.
